The Chamber of Southwest Florida and Edison College in partnership with 11 local chambers and business associations in the region will host a full day seminar on labor and employment law presented by the law firm of Kunkel, Miller & Hament on March 6.
Joining the regional chamber and college are The Realtors Association of Greater Fort Myers and the Beach, The Lee Chamber of Commerce, The North Fort Myers Chamber of Commerce, The Lehigh Acres Chamber of Commerce, The Southwest Florida Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, The Cape Coral Construction Industry Association, The Lee County Medical Society, The Charlotte County Economic Development Office, The Marco Island Area Chamber of Commerce and The Southwest Regional Manufacturers Association.
The law firm of Kunkel, Miller & Hament has offices in Fort Myers, Sarasota and Tampa and specializes in labor issues for employers. In addition to a panel of attorneys, a nationally recognized wage and hour expert will be a featured speaker. According to Armando Nargi, Lee County Chamber of Commerce, "This day-long learning activity is an opportunity to get hands on information about an area where many small businesses often need help. By bringing the experts into direct contact with those who must be responsible employers, we can help small entrepreneurs stay clear of some of the pitfalls that can result from not understanding the many responsibilities and rights which impact those who employ others." The Florida Employment Law Trilogy is an 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. educational seminar designed for small business owners, human resource professionals, managers, and supervisors. The seminar will cover general employment law as well as practical advice and solutions for complex issues that employers often face. Participants will learn the preventive approach to labor relations and employment law issues and how to preserve employers' legal rights. The full day seminar includes lunch and each attendee will receive a copy of a special edition Labor Law Reference Manual prepared for this program. CE credit is being offered to registrants from Edison College Department of Continuing Education. General tuition is $125 and discounts are being provided for those who register by Feb.19 or for those who bring 3 or more people to the event. Steve Tirey, president of The Chamber of Southwest Florida, says, "We are limiting seating for this event to a maximum of 200 persons. Managers, supervisors, small business owners and those who work in human resources will see a great value in this activity. This seminar promises to be the most informative and comprehensive labor and employment law workshop in Southwest Florida." "Successful hiring, employment and termination depends upon a clear knowledge of practical working issues for regional employers. Edison College is pleased to partner with area organizations to enhance this knowledge base in Southwest Florida. This seminar is a 'must-do' event for anyone who employs others in the workplace," according to Bill Roshon, dean of workforce programs for Edison College. The seminar will be held at Edison College, Corbin Auditorium, 8099 College Parkway in Fort Myers. Information is now available at the Chamber by calling 239-278-4001.
