Southwest Florida provides a fertile environment for business success. Massive growth fuels a variety of industries that house, feed, clothe, employ and otherwise serve the bourgeoning population. And let's not forget the lifestyle and subtropical climate that ice the cake.
These dynamics sustain an atmosphere in which locally based corporations continue to flourish, year after year. As proof of such achievement, Gulfshore Business presents its annual Top Companies list, ranked by gross revenues or sales of the region's public and private businesses.
Our 2006 lineup is composed of 71 companies that generated $13 million or more. This year, seven of them reported $1 billion and above-up from six in last July's list-and 36 posted $100 million or more. And only a few experienced a downtick in sales or revenues. Companies provide their figures to us; whether they realized profits is uncertain, as most decline to reveal their net income.
Although our intention is to present a definitive profile of our top companies, we exclude some-real estate firms, attorneys and hotel chains, for example-because their reporting practices aren't comparable to other businesses on the list.
We also recognize that we might have missed some qualified companies that should be ranked. If so, please contact Gulfshore Business editor Phil Borchmann at philb@gulfshorebusiness.com or (239) 449-4140.
Here is this year's corporate honor roll.
