CAPE CORAL NAMED A TOP PLACE TO RETIRE

Cape Coral has ranked No. 9 in WalletHub’s 2018 Best Places to Retire list. WalletHub compared more than 180 U.S. cities across 46 key measures of affordability, quality of life, health care and availability of recreational activities. The data set ranges from cost of living to retired taxpayer-friendliness to share of the population aged 65 and older. INDUSTRY APPRECIATION AWARDS FINALISTS NAMED

The Horizon Council and Lee County Economic Development have announced finalists for the annual Industry Appreciation Awards, held Oct. 4 at the Hyatt Regency Coconut Point in Estero. The Business Citizenship Award finalists are Crown Roofing, Cushman & Wakefield Commercial Property, Edison National Bank, Lee County Electric Cooperative, Pavese Law Firm and Pushing the Envelope. The Nonprofit of the Year Award finalists are Alliance for the Arts, Child Care of SW Florida, F.I.S.H. of Sanibel-Captiva, Heights Foundation, SWFL Crime Stoppers and Wildcat Run Charitable Foundation. The Diversity in Business Award finalist is Lee Health. The Startup of the Year Award finalists are Minaya Learning Global Solutions, Oasis Senior Advisors and Testimonial Tree. The Business of the Year Award finalists are FineMark National Bank and Trust, Shell Point Retirement Community and Sunshine Ace Hardware. NAPLES ZOO ANIMAL HOSPITAL BUILDING BEGINS

GATES Construction has begun building a new Animal Hospital at Naples Zoo at Caribbean Gardens. Named the “Glass Animal Hospital” in honor of its primary benefactors, Denny and Tanya Glass, the one-story, 9,144-square-foot animal hospital will feature a surgical suite, treatment room, hospitalization rooms, necropsy room, diagnostic lab, pharmacy, ICU and hospitalization holding areas, outdoor run area, and administrative rooms. Construction has begun and is slated for completion winter 2019.  Design services are provided by Architects Unlimited.

FARMER TO ADDRESS STATEWIDE PLANNING CONFERENCE

Metro Forecasting Models LLC CEO David H. Farmer will address the 2018 American Planning Association Florida Annual Conference on Sept. 12th in West Palm Beach. Farmer will present as part of a panel discussion on “Planning for Growth in Collier County: A Glimpse at 2055 and Beyond.” Other panelists include Collier County Commissioner William McDaniel Jr. and Michael Bosi, director of the Collier County zoning division. The panel will present a case study on forecasting the long-range growth and development in Collier County, including population growth, housing units and increasing demand for government facilities. The panel also will discuss policy implementation. Farmer has nearly 30 years of land development industry experience and is a nationally recognized professional engineer and certified city planner with extensive experience in real estate development, planning and civil engineering, modeling, and infrastructure design and construction. A former chairman of the Southwest Florida District Council for the Urban Land Institute (ULI), Farmer also is a national instructor for the ULI.​

FULTON JOINS ADVANCED AESTHETIC SOLUTIONS

Advanced Aesthetic Solutions has hired Catherine Fulton, a licensed medical esthetician and certified aesthetic consultant. Fulton brings more than 10 years of experience in the professional skin care industry to her role with Advanced Aesthetic Solutions. Her background includes working closely with plastic surgeons and cosmetic dermatologists in the Sarasota area, and she is experienced in the correction and maintenance of sun-damaged, hyper-pigmented, aging and problem skin. HERGET JOINS MORAN EDWARDS ASSET MANAGEMENT GROUP

Kathy Herget, senior registered client associate, has joined Moran Edwards Asset Management Group of Wells Fargo Advisors. Originally from Charlton, Massachusetts, Herget has worked for Wells Fargo Advisors since 2010.  Prior to that, she was employed as a client associate with Carole Peck Financial – LPL and before that in client associate/business development with Moors & Cabot.  Herget is Series 7 and Series 66 certified.  She attended Quinnipiac College in Hamden, Connecticut.          ​

Charitable Notes

Community Foundation distributes $7.19 million in grants for quarter

The Community Foundation of Collier County has distributed $7,193,003 in grants in the fourth quarter of its 2017-18 fiscal year to nonprofit agencies and scholarships for secondary education and specialized training. The distributions included $97,000 from the Angel Fund for Small Nonprofits, administered by the Community Foundation. Noah's Ark Family Services Inc. received $12,000 from the Angel Fund to purchase new freezers. Also included in the grant awards is $147,457 from the Community Foundation’s Changing Needs Fund, which is designed to be a safety net to help meet the changing needs of the community, and $232,347 for Hurricane Irma relief. Grant applications are now being accepted from the Foundation’s Changing Needs Fund for capital grants, consultant grants and program grants to local nonprofits for programs that have measurable results.  For more information, visit cfcollier.org/nonprofits/apply-for-grants/.
