NOR-TECH EXPANDS IN CAPE CORAL

Nor-Tech Hi-Performance Boats is stepping up its staff and production in its new manufacturing headquarters in Cape Coral. The custom boat builder expects the $2 million, 55,000-square-foot facility to increase production by 30 percent.

The Cape Coral expansion doubles the company’s total 100,000 square feet of manufacturing space in Lee County, which includes 45,000 square feet in North Fort Myers. Nor-Tech has partnered with Cape Coral Technical College to train skilled staff.

Nor-Tech Hi-Performance Boats established its roots in Cape Coral in 1991, founded by Norwegians Trond Schou and Nils Johnsen.

INK NAMED CHAIR OF LEE COUNTY LPA

Waldrop Engineering has appointed James Ink (pictured left) as chair of the Lee County Local Planning Agency (LPA). Ink has served three terms with the LPA beginning in 2016. The LPA authority is to review and provide recommendations to the Board of County Commissioners concerning determinations of Lee Plan consistency, as the Lee Plan relates to proposed land development regulations and ordinances. The Lee Plan is designed to depict Lee County as it will appear in the year 2030.

Ink has more than 35 years of development consulting experience throughout Florida. He serves on the City of Fort Myers Planning Board, Lee County Local Planning Agency, Charlotte Harbor National Estuary Program Management Committee and several other boards and committees across Southwest Florida.

PADILLA TO PRESENT ON CRYPTOCURRENCIES

The Financial Planning Association (FPA) of SW Florida’s March member meeting will be held from 5:30-8 p.m. on March 20 at the Embassy Suites by Hilton in Estero.

Jorge Padilla will present “What Advisors Need to Know about the New World of Crypto and Digital Assets.” Padilla is a past president of Florida FPA and will provide guests with a foundational knowledge of blockchain protocols, cryptocurrencies, and tokens. He will also touch on the implications of adding digital assets to a traditional portfolio and provide some possible valuation frameworks around them.

BENNETT HONORED BY SALUSCARE FOR SERVICE

SalusCare Inc. has honored Susan Bennett of Susan Bennett Marketing & Media, L.C.  (pictured right) for her 28 years of public relations and fundraising service to the nonprofit organization and its predecessors, Lee Mental Health and Southwest Florida Addiction Services (SWFAS).

Bennett began working with SWFAS in 1991 as a fundraising consultant and subsequently provided public relations and marketing counseling to Lee Mental Health in the 1990s as well. When the two agencies merged in 2013, Bennett led the rebranding effort for what is now known as SalusCare.

Bennett has raised $22.2 million for the agencies; donated more than 3,000 documented in-kind hours and contributed more than $25,000 in personal gifts; earned an award from Florida Public Relations Association, among many others, for the SWFAS capital campaign that produced $9 million and made possible the Evans Avenue campus; and founded SalusCare’s signature event, Laughter Is the Best Medicine Comedy Night.”

CHICO’S FAS CEO TO SPEAK AT CAREERQUEST

Seacrest Country Day School announces Shelley Broader (pictured left), chief executive officer and president of Chico’s FAS Inc., as this year’s keynote speaker at the fifth annual CareerQuest. The event will take place from 8 a.m. to noon on March 26 at Seacrest Country Day School in Naples.

CareerQuest, a program organized and hosted by Seacrest’s College Counseling Department, pairs nearly 300 students from Seacrest and surrounding Collier County high schools and non-profit organizations with experts from various industries in an interactive, roundtable format.

DAVID LAWRENCE CENTER APPOINTS BOARD MEMBERS

David Lawrence Center (DLC) has appointed Laird Grant Groody, Karen Mosteller and Chris Vernon to its board of directors. Each will serve a three-year term. 

Groody is a retired investment manager, spending much of her career with U.S. Trust in New York and Naples. She also served as president and CEO of the Rockerfeller Foundation. Groody will serve on the board’s development and finance committees.

Mosteller is the strategic medical healthcare and dental consultant with Markham Norton Mosteller Wright & Co. P.A. She will serve on the board’s finance committee.

Vernon is a partner with Vernon Litigation Group, where he manages the litigation and arbitration of complex business and financial disputes. He will serve on the board’s governance and nominating committee.

New International global-themed fundraiser held tonight

New International will host Pushing Boundaries Around the World from 6-8 p.m. this evening at the Sidney & Berne Davis Art Center in Fort Myers. The fundraising event will include cocktails outdoors, an informal dinner and entertainment. A program and stories of missionaries pushing boundaries across the globe will conclude the evening.

Guests are encouraged to wear colorful cocktail attire in celebration of strides made around the world in the areas of clean water, extreme poverty relief, food security, and more.

Keep Lee County Beautiful night with the Everblades upcoming

The Florida Everblades vs. the Norfolk Admirals, held on March 30, will benefit Keep Lee County Beautiful. A pregame tailgate party will be held from 5-7 pm, featuring live music and bounce houses for kids. Following the game there will be a jersey auction. A portion from every ticket sale goes to Keep Lee County Beautiful to help continue beautification and awareness efforts.

Elvis Tribute Concert raises $3,000 for Lighthouse of SWFL

Fort Myers-based Springwood Court Assisted Living Community raised $3,000 for Lighthouse of SWFL during its Elvis Tribute Concert. More than 100 people attended the fundraiser, held on Feb. 26 at Cape Cabaret in Cape Coral.

Lighthouse of SWFL will use the funds raised to continue providing programs and services to people of all ages with blindness and vision impairment. Classes include independent living skills, safe cooking, Braille, orientation and mobility, low vision, technology using iPhones and iPads, art, music, and more.
