Fort Myers City Council unanimously approved April 1 a supplemental task authorization in a not-to-exceed amount of $2,225,000 for renovations at the Burroughs Home related to Hurricane Ian damage. The Burroughs Home is a two-and-a-half-story Georgian Revival-style home constructed in 1901, bequeathed to the city in 1983 and added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1984. The issue was initially discussed at a March 25 workshop, where city staff was directed to bring a contract to Council for the entire scope of work to be completed. Chris-Tel Construction provided a proposal for the work necessary for the carriage house and delayed maintenance of the main house. Staff is still reviewing the proposal, however, once the proposal is finalized, a contract will be developed and executed by the city manager and mayor.
The family-owned Blue Sky Restaurant opened Dec. 7 in the former space of Franklin Social.
