Cape Coral Animal Shelter plans to expand by breaking ground on a 19,000-square-foot shelter facility in early 2025, the board of directors announced Nov. 8 at a Capital Campaign Kickoff Celebration. The facility will be constructed adjacent to the existing building at 325 SW Second Ave. All shelter operations will be moved into this larger, state-of-the-art facility, which will more than triple the current capacity for both dogs and cats. This will allow the shelter to take in more abandoned, unwanted animals and find their forever homes. The current building will be reconstructed to expand to a larger, low-cost community veterinary clinic, adding additional exam rooms, expanded surgical suites and recovery areas.
