A prominent retail center in central Naples recently changed hands.

In late June, Benderson Development acquired Carillon Place, a 250,000-square-foot retail center on the southeast corner of Airport-Pulling and Pine Ridge roads. Benderson purchased the more than 25-acre property from Site Centers, formerly DDR Corp. and Developers Diversified Realty Inc., a real estate investment trust based in Beachwood, Ohio.

The property sale price has not been disclosed or recorded yet. The last sale price for that real estate was $35 million in 2012, according to records from the Collier County property appraiser’s office.

“As we continue to significantly grow our asset base, this center was a natural fit for our portfolio,” said Randy Benderson, managing director of the family-owned real estate company.

Built in 1994, Carillon Place is 92% leased and home to national retailers, such as Walmart Neighborhood Center, T.J. Maxx, Bealls, Ross, OfficeMax, DSW and Dollar Tree.

The latest acquisition gives Benderson properties on two of the four corners of what has been dubbed the busiest intersection in Collier County. Benderson also owns the former Toys “R” Us showroom that is a freestanding outparcel of Ridgeport Plaza on the northwest corner of Airport-Pulling and Pine Ridge roads.

In Collier County, Benderson Development has developed retail centers and commercial projects for decades. The company’s local holdings include Gateway Shoppes at North Bay and Marketplace Commons in North Naples, Market Center in East Naples and Parkway Plaza in Golden Gate.

Founded in 1949 in Buffalo, New York, Benderson Development is one of the largest privately held real estate companies in the nation. Benderson’s Florida operation is based in University Park near Sarasota.

The company’s portfolio includes more than 1,000 properties totaling more than 55 million square feet in 41 states. Benderson has been actively growing its nationwide portfolio with other recent acquisitions in Florida, including North River Marketplace in Venice, Glengary Shoppes in Sarasota and Linton Commons in Delray Beach.
