A significant expansion will almost double City Furniture’s showroom space in North Naples before the end of the month.

A nearly 47,000-square-foot addition nears completion on the southern end of the more than 55,000-square-foot store that has operated since 2008 on that corner of U.S. 41 and Old 41 Road. Completion has been delayed by a materials shortage caused by the supply chain bottleneck. South Florida-based Miller Construction awaits only an electrical panel that’s scheduled to arrive May 18 in order for the project to be completed and able to apply for its certificate of occupancy. “We should be done with the project by the end of this month,” said Traci Miller, senior vice president of business development for Miller Construction.

The expanded showroom at 14250 Tamiami Trail N. will provide more than just extra square footage to the Florida-based furniture store. “The project also includes upgrades of the entire showroom, which Miller built in 2008, to the home furnishings and accessory brand’s Generation 3 design standards,” Miller said. “Focused on an enhanced in-store experience, City Furniture’s Generation 3 design adds a KC Café & Wine Bar, an expansive Mattress Gallery and a City Marketplace home accessories store-within-a-store.”

Shortly after the expansion opens, Miller Construction will begin work on the second phase in North Naples. It will remodel the existing City Furniture space to reflect the next-generation look and feel for the showroom of residential furniture, mattresses and home accents.

At more than 100,000 square feet, the expanded local showroom still pales in comparison to the 130,000- and 140,000-square-foot showrooms that City Furniture is building from the ground up today in South and Central Florida. City Furniture operates about 20 showrooms in Florida as well as 14 Ashley HomeStore locations. The homegrown chain began in 1971 when founder Kevin Koenig opened what initially was named Waterbed City.

In North Naples, the Marketplace Commons slice of land at 41 and 41 also is home to CVS Pharmacy and Ashley HomeStore, licensed by City Furniture. That acreage and retail center is owned and operated by Benderson Development and is diagonal from Gateway Shoppes at North Bay, also owned by Benderson, based in University Park, Florida.
