At the Nov. 18 Fort Myers City Council meeting, council members Diana Giraldo and Darla Bonk took their oath of office for their new four-year terms.
Giraldo is new to the City Council following her Ward 2 win in the general election to fill Johnny Streets’ seat after the 17-year incumbent announced he was not seeking reelection. Council member Liston Bochette’s new four-year term also commenced Nov. 18 with his swearing in scheduled for Nov. 25 by the City Clerk’s Office. Bonk was uncontested for Ward 6, and incumbent Bochette was reelected for Ward 4.
An architect, Giraldo is the founder and chief creative officer for Community Development Reimagined, a minority, woman-owned consulting firm dedicated to sustainable development solutions, green building certifications and resiliency planning. Formerly a city employee in the Community Development Department, Giraldo is a tenured bicycle and pedestrian safety advocate, serving four years on the City’s Bicycle & Pedestrian Advisory Board. Following Hurricane Ian, she was appointed to the housing branch of the ResilientLee Recovery Task Force.
