Delnor-Wiggins Pass State Park ranked eighth on Dr. Beach’s Top 10 Beaches in the U.S. list. The list has been compiled by Florida International University’s Stephen Leatherman since 1991, using 50 criteria to evaluate beaches, including water and sand quality, as well as safety and management. The North Naples beach was ranked just ahead of No. 9 Coast Guard Beach in Cape Cod, Massachusetts, and just behind Poipu Beach in Kauai, Hawaii. Duke Kahanamoku Beach in Oahu, Hawaii, took top honors, followed by Coopers Beach in Southhampton, New York; Wailea Beach in Maui, Hawaii; Caladesi Island State Park in Dunedin/Clearwater and Beachwalker Park in Kiawah Island, South Carolina.
