Town of Fort Myers Beach received notice July 10 concerning a delay in the review process of its Community Rating System classification from the Federal Emergency Management Agency Region 4 administrator. FEMA officials said the agency is working on a final decision that will come no later than July 17. Fort Myers Beach officials said the town submitted all required documentation identified by FEMA on May 21. Unincorporated Lee County and its municipalities, other than Sanibel Island and the city of Fort Myers, were notified earlier this year that more than 100,000 homeowners would be losing a 25% discount on flood insurance, effective Oct. 1. A June 10 deadline was given for each municipality to return the correct paperwork to FEMA.
