Fort Myers Beach Town Council unanimously selected emergency management consultant William McKannay as its next town manager. McKannay was chosen from a group of five finalists, most recently serving as a consultant for Applied Training Solutions, a provider of training, operational support and technologies for national defense and emergency management in San Antonio. The Army veteran was the garrison commander at Fort Riley in Kansas from July 2022 to December 2024 and was a battalion commander at Fort Benning in Georgia from July 2017 to July 2020, where he led a specialized policing, criminal investigative and protection organization consisting of eight subordinate organizations on continental U.S. and overseas military installations.
