The target opening date is March 14 for Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen in Bonita Springs. The fast-food franchise retrofitted a former Burger King and Citibank branch to create a new drive-thru on the west side of U.S. 41 just south of Bonita Beach Road. Popeyes is sandwiched between KFC and Wendy’s. The freestanding building at 28186 S. Tamiami Trail, which sat vacant for more than 10 years, will become the Royal family’s 11th Popeyes franchise. The popular brand with a menu of mostly Southern-style chicken dishes has been a long time coming for area fans, especially those trying to get hold of a game-changing chicken sandwich. The nearest locations for Popeyes are in Fort Myers, Immokalee and Golden Gate.
