New York City restaurateur Fabio Casella and chefs Giuseppe Manco and Eleonora Calvacchi opened San Matteo Italian Restaurant & Bar on Dec. 4 in Suite 145/A at the University Village Shops in south Fort Myers. It is the second location for San Matteo, which was founded in 2010 on New York’s Upper East Side by Casella and his brother, Cire Casella. It offers favored authentic Italian classics with a modern touch and Neapolitan-style pizza and burgers, dry-aged meats from Pat La Frieda and authentic Italian pasta. Additionally, the 270-seat restaurant offers a fine selection of imported and domestic wines stored in a wine cellar that is the focus of the venue. Hours are 4 to 10 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays and 4 to 9 p.m. Sundays.
Pizzerias amassed a major slice of the more than 50 area restaurants that closed in 2024.
