Bonita Springs’ Wonder Gardens reopened Oct. 14, less than a week after Category 3 Hurricane Milton hit Florida’s Gulf Coast. Wonder Gardens officials said resident birds and reptiles were moved to safety before the storm, and all were returned to their exhibits after wellness checks and determination their habitats were safe. CEO Neil Anderson said the facility received minor damage and flooding from the storm. Following the storm, 45 volunteers contributed more than 160 hours volunteering over four days, moving more than 10 cubic yards of debris, cutting and removing downed trees, raking debris and fallen palm fronds.
