Charlotte County Board of Commissioners gave final site plan approval Sept. 10 for a 63-room hotel on Sandhill Boulevard. The hotel is planned on a 1.28-acre site near the DeSoto County border that is part of the Sandhill Development of Regional Impact.
Legacy Builders is the contractor for the four-story, extended stay, My Place Hotel, said Wendy Ward, administrative assistant for the South Dakota-based builder.
She said My Place Hotels are franchise hotels but couldn’t provide the name of the franchisee of the Port Charlotte location.
My Place Hotels, which has more than 70 locations in 31 states but none in Florida, offers extended stay accommodations with full in-room kitchens, including a full-size refrigerator, two-burner stovetop, toaster, microwave and coffee maker. The pet-friendly hotel also includes standard My Place amenities, such as a communal TV and business center, laundry facilities, a grilling pavilion and a 24-hour grab-and-go market.
There are several design plans, but the rendering submitted to Charlotte County planning officials resembles one that has already been built and its photo appears on the My Place Hotels website.
The Sandhill Development of Regional Impact, which is zoned for hotel and mini warehouse, has been undergoing a flurry of building and construction. In June, a New York developer purchased nearly 200 acres at 175 Kings Highway in the Sandhill DRI for $17.85 million.
