After almost 30 years serving Charlotte County, Tile and Carpet World held a ribbon-cutting ceremony Friday at its new location in Port Charlotte. The company moved to 3427 Tamiami Trail on the southbound side of U.S. 41 near Harbor Boulevard.
Tile and Carpet World has undergone numerous expansions by owners Duane and Tina Needham since they opened their business in 1994.
They heralded the move with a party for the public, which featured a neighborhood barbecue. Grills were set up and hotdogs and hamburgers, snacks and beverages were offered to all who attended.
The Needhams were planning to remodel their building and were about to secure permits right before Hurricane Charley on Aug. 13, 2004. The store changed their plans, and they totally rebuilt their showroom in June 2007 and reopened in January 2008 in the Mediterranean-style terra cotta building.
A local business owner was interested in their property, so the Needhams sold and moved into a Mediterranean-style building on the other side of the highway.
Over the years, Tile and Carpet World kept growing—in physical building size and customers.
The Needhams and their children and staff were all smiles on Friday. Eventually, the Needhams’ children will be running the business.
Both family and staff were on hand to usher in a new era for a business that has been a familiar presence in Charlotte County for nearly three decades.
