Florida International Air Show officials announced they added new performers to maintain the same level of excitement and entertainment after military acts were forced to cancel due to the federal government shutdown.

Among the featured additions are three MiG-17 fighter jets performing together for the first time in Florida, led by veteran jet pilot Randy Ball. The formation will headline the show’s civilian lineup.

The event will take place Nov. 1-2 at Punta Gorda Airport.

Due to the government shutdown, the U.S. Navy Blue Angels, U.S. Air Force F-16 Viper Demo Team and Heritage Flight Team are unable to participate in this year’s show.

“We share in the disappointment of our fans regarding the nonparticipation of the Blue Angels, F-16 Viper and the Heritage Flight Demo teams,” said Denise Dull, president of the Florida International Air Show leadership team. “But we are thrilled to present one of the strongest civilian lineups in our history — proof that the Air Show will always go on. Our mission to inspire, educate and give back to the community continues full throttle.”

Air Show OIct. 30 Matt Younkin and his Twin Beech 18

Acrobatic pilot Matt Younkin will perform in his world-famous Twin Beech 18 during the Florida International Air Show, showcasing one of the strongest civilian lineups in the event’s history.

The lineup also includes renowned aviator Patty Wagstaff, international aerobatic champion Aarron Deliu from Australia, precision solo performer Doug Litton and Matt Younkin with his world-famous Twin Beech 18.

Opening the event will be The Chuters Jump Team, a veteran-owned parachute demonstration group known for patriotic displays. The team will perform a 10,000-foot flag drop to start the show.

Rising country music artist Josie Sal will perform the national anthem during opening ceremonies. A solemn tribute to fallen service members will follow, featuring a Missing Man Formation by Walt Fricke and the Veteran Airlift Command.

“This is a rare opportunity for fans to experience something they’ll never forget,” Dull said. “From the thunder of the MiG-17s to the artistry of Patty Wagstaff and the powerful patriotic opening, it’s going to be a weekend to remember.”

Air Show Aarron Deliu 2

Aerobatic pilot and world record holder Aarron Deliu of Australia will take to the skies at the Florida International Air Show, part of a lineup featuring top civilian performers following military cancellations.

Beyond the aerial performances, the event will feature a STEM Pavilion for young aviation enthusiasts, static aircraft displays, vendors, exhibitors, family activities and 22 food trucks.

The B-29 bomber “Doc” will not appear this year due to engine issues unrelated to the shutdown.

“The Florida International Air Show is one of the most impactful and well-attended events in Southwest Florida,” said Steve Lineberry, the show’s media director. “Each year, the Air Show brings thousands of visitors to Charlotte County. The ripple effect supports tourism, creates jobs and shines a positive spotlight on our community.”

An all-volunteer team of more than 500 people helps organize the nonprofit event, which has donated more than $3.6 million to local charities since its inception in 1981.
